Reflections on the 2021 Baltimore Open

“A goal is not always meant to be reached. It often simply serves as something to aim at.” In this episode, I reflect on my recent performance at the 2021 Baltimore Open. I talk about my mindset approaching my first weightlifting meet, how I performed, and why deliberately challenging yourself will help you become a stronger person.

Summary

On 24 January 2021, I competed in the 2021 Baltimore Open ran by OSS Weightlifting Club and hosted by Titan Athletics. This event is a USA Weightlifting-sanctioned event, meaning participants have a chance to qualify for Nationals, meaning they will continue to compete for the chance to be a National champion (spoiler: I’m nowhere near that level).

I signed up for the event in November 2020, fully understanding there was a chance this event would be significantly different due to COVID-19. Regardless, I signed up to hold myself accountable for my training with Iron Athletics Weightlifting Club and have a goal to work towards. The experience was amazing! I placed third in the 81 kg Masters Male division. Lots of stuff I learned and very happy with my performance, despite all of the weird factors leading up to the event. I’m already looking forward to my next competition.

Here is a video of my performance, but listen to this week’s episode for more insight!
